Day 6 – Summer Cup
Royal George – A hot day and limited shade did not stop the keen competitors of the Summer Cup Long Distance event. German coach in residence, Christoph Prunsche, took out the win in the long in a scorching time of 57.24. Only 1.55 mins behind was Jon McComb in a blistering time of 59.19. Jeremy Day took third place honours in 1:06.16. Clare Hawthorne held off Paul Pacque by 1 second to win the middle with Christine Brown in third. The short saw Peter Shaw win from Bert Elson and junior Zali McComb in third. Logan Kerr was the fastest in the easy short in 48.58 but having already won a prize, the win awarded to ALT junior Wil Enkalaar with Eleanor Williams in second place. Many competitors camped overnight by the river (and swam I’m sure) at Rajah rocks preparing for the Summer Cup middle and the final event of series.
Day 7 EVOC Summer Cup
Campers arose and off to an early start on the last day of competition of the EVOC summer Cup! Unfortunately no one escaped the heat but all enjoyed the Rajah Rock map except perhaps some nasty hills. Jack Wickham was seen sprinting up them, but most decided a walk or jog was a better choice when so hot. Final placings of overall winners on the Long were decided today, whereas the Short overall winner had the competition sewed up after her 5th and final event at Scotch Oakburn during the week. Lucky for that as well, because she unfortunately hurt her hip and was unable to take any further part in the event. Christoph again took the fastest time in the long, closely followed by junior Jack Wickham and Jon McComb. Today’s winner in the long however, was Dion McKenzie. The short saw Bert Elson take the honours after his second yesterday, with Sara Brain in second and yesterday’s winner Peter Shaw in third. Only two competitors today in the Easy, Logan Kerr the fastest and the winner today Eleanor Williams from Victoria.
