There are four key upcoming events across the state that orienteers of all ages shouldn't overlook.
Southern Sunday – 26 March 2017 – 10.00 am – 12.00 midday
For those who have enjoyed the southern twilight series why not have a go at this week’s southern Sunday event at Tollmans Hill using the recently remapped upper Ridgeway map. The event is open to anyone with short, medium and Long maps, with starts from 10.00 am until midday. Plenty of assistance for beginners. Just drive to the Mt Nelson turnoff on the Southern Outlet and follow signs towards the start at Tollmans Hill.
Final Twilight Event – Hobart College, Mt Nelson – 29 March - 3.30 pm – 6.30 pm
This is the final event in this years southern Autumn twilight series and also doubles up as the southern schools championships. The only difference between this and other twilight events is that students compete on one of five courses according to their school year, ranging from Primary to Long 11/12. For adults it’s business as usual. Great courses in and around Hobart College grounds on Mt Nelson with plenty of bush running for the longer courses. Follow signs from the entrance to Hobart College.
Northern Schools Orienteering Championships – Friday 31st March – 10am to 2pm
The Esk Valley Orienteering Club runs an annual Northern Schools Orienteering Championship which along with a state-wide Schools Championship and nominated state selection events provides a pathway for young orienteering athletes towards possible selection in the Tasmanian Schools orienteering team. Entry is open to any student at primary or secondary school or College. Orienteering Series of Tasmania 2017 No 3 – Clarence Marshes, 2 April 2017 - Entry Now Open In Eventor
Entries are now open on Eventor for OST 3 at Clarence Marshes in just over a weeks time. Clarence Marshes is about 10 km this side of Derwent Bridge and this is the third in this year’s statewide OST events. This event is in the beautiful country on the eastern side of the map with very runnable terrain through open forest and marshland. There are the usual 9 OST courses and while we would appreciate pre-entry on Eventor, there will be limited enter on the day for beginners courses. The event is open to anyone and it’s a wonderful opportunity for some of the newcomers to this year’s twilight events to get out and have a go at real bush orienteering. Great courses by the planning / controlling team of Bert Elson and Martin Bicevskis and help on the day for any beginner
