Jeremy Genar is from Belgium. Jeremy has represented Belgium in orienteering a number of times as a junior at JWOC and has recently been selected for his second WOC. He loves sprint racing and will be representing Belgium in Gothenburg, Sweden in August. He is excited to be coming to Australia and especially Tasmania after speaking with Christoph Prunsche. He will be coming with his girlfriend Silke.
A little bit from Jeremy “I've been working for almost 2 years now. I never took the opportunity to go abroad for a longer period, live in a completely new surrounding and get to know new places, people, cultures, ... I believe I will regret never taking the opportunity to discover the orienteering sport as a profession. I already gained experience as an orienteering coach and mapper in Belgium and I have good communication skills. I’m also able to adapt quickly to new surroundings and situations. Having this in mind, I’m highly confident that I can utilize my skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to help the Australians become better orienteers and live my dream.”
Jeremy hopes to arrive in September/October and stay in Australia for 9 months. Initially, he will stay with the Nankervis family but we hope that there are other opportunities for Jeremy and Silke to stay with other northern Tasmanian families.
Jeremy will not be able to do his job without a car, so will be looking to buy one soon after his arrival.
