A perfect Hobart Spring day attracted about 70 people to try out an introductory orienteering course at Knocklofty last weekend. The orienteering course was offered as part of the Knocklofty Open Day organised by the Hobart City Council. The 2km course took participants on a tour of some of the lesser-used Knocklofty tracks, with a fascinating fact about Knocklofty at each control. Did you know that in the 1870s Knocklofty was called an eyesore due to lack of vegetation, and it was considered a disreputable location due to rifle shooting matches and prize fighting? Present-day activities such as dog-walking, mountain-biking and of course orienteering are much more respectable! Don’t miss the next event there on 25 November!
