Terrain and course notes
This is a major botanical centre. Please take the utmost care not to damage plants – especially in areas where there are recent plantings.
The terrain is a mix ranging from very open areas, to rough open, to disused quarries with major cliffs and rock detail. The terrain also varies from reasonably flat to quite steep in places.
Please take particular care in the old quarry areas.
In the bush areas undergrowth can vary from reasonably open to bracken and thicker vegetation. There are some areas of hawthorn forest (dark green) which are best avoided, and there are unmapped piles of recently cut hawthorn bushes where clearing is in progress.
Mapped tracks in the forest areas can be vague in places and can be confused with animal pads.
All man made objects (X) are either signs or seats.
It would be unwise to try to cross the streams other than at the marked crossings. Some of these might be slippery. Take care!
Note that fences with the heavy line must not be crossed, even if they are not especially high. Many of the fences are electric. Gates are shown. Some catches might be a bit tricky. Leave gates as you find them.
