Sporting Schools Program:
This federal government initiative will distribute $100 million to primary schools across the country with the aim of making kids more active. 32 sports have been chosen to deliver lessons to classes and orienteering is one of these. In short, each primary school will have $1,700 to spend each term on two sports, which they will choose by visiting a website. So if a school chooses orienteering, they will have $850 to buy a package from us. This package could be in the form of having their school mapped and a number of lessons delivered. We aim to develop a number of packages that a school can choose from.
What’s in it for us?
Money – we will be paid to deliver orienteering classes and create maps of schools. We will also be paid to help us get ready to implement the packages.
Profile – many more children will experience orienteering
Organisation – more school maps produced, more coaches trained, more mappers trained
What is needed to make this happen?
We need to develop packages, train coaches and mappers. Coaches and mappers will be paid for their work – about $25 per hour. This kind of work is suited to students from upper secondary through to university and also for some of our retired members.

Sporting Schools Development Contract
Orienteering Tasmania wishes to let a contract for the provision of the following services.
Services Required:
- Development or adaptation of Sporting Schools packages for delivery to schools
- Preparation of material to advertise the packages on the Sporting Schools website
- Planning and organisation of a programme to train teams of coaches and mappers to be ready to implement the packages
The successful applicant would have a thorough knowledge of the sport of orienteering, and ideally have experience in the management of a small sporting project or office. Experience and skills in the development of teaching materials, the management of training of coaches and mappers would be seen as beneficial.
Remuneration: $30 per hour (max 160 hours).
