7 mile

Developed by Stuart Lawrie and Richard Parkin, this session will include:
two techical warm-up exercises and an attack point exercise. These are recommended to anyone who is not so confident in complex sand dune terrain. Coaching or discussion will be available. If there is interest, Richard will be happy to lead kids (and anyone else) around the corridor exercise as an introduction to contours. The Long course is recommended only for experienced and fit orienteers (estimated ‘winning’ time 60+mins).

  • Technical warm-up exercises: corridor (<0.7km) and control pick (for distance      practice)(1.3km)
  • Attackpoint course: 4.4km
  • Long course (with attackpoint for first six controls): 8.4km

The start time has been brought forward to 10am. Parking is the same for Hobart Shorts and the start location also: 800m west along the path parallel to the beach. The charge for adults will be $4.

Where: Meet at the 7 Mile Beach in the car park at the end of Surf Rd, past the ranger station.

When: 10am, Sunday 1st February

What to Bring: O-gear, swimwear if you plan on swimming afterwards, and potentially a map bag depending on weather.
