To enhance the pomp, splendour and especially brevity of each of the many IOF World Cup and Oceania awards ceremonies we will have young orienteers bearing prizes and flowers on trays held within easy reach of the presenting officials. Juniors may also take part by escorting groups of prize-getters to and from the podium.  Nominations are now open for these sought-after positions (amusingly referred to in IOF guidelines as “Hostess”).

Requirements:

-          host or hostess aged between 8 and 18

-          to be available for briefing at least 30 minutes before the allotted ceremony

-          neatly dressed in casual clothes – a stock of red Official Volunteer shirts will be available to wear during the ceremony

-          may nominate in pairs (cute pairing of siblings could especially appeal to the world media and send the footage viral)

-          definitely no silly stuff

Oceania ceremonies have dozens of categories and tray-loads of prizes, requiring a certain level of arm strength.  IOF World Cup ceremonies are short and very dignified.

Parents allowing their children the excitement and honour of taking part should, without hesitation or delay, contact Jeff Dunn by email, indicating which ceremonies suit you best. Parents depriving their children of this opportunity need not contact Jeff, ever.

Juniors who nominate will receive the gratitude of the Tasmanian orienteering community and also be eligible for an error in their favour when I calculate the cumulative points in the Twilight Schools Orienteering Series.

Note that you and your driver may have to hang around for a long time after your own event – if you even have one on that day – so make certain that you only nominate if your family can guarantee that you will be available for the duration of the ceremony.
