Attention all Tasmanian orienteers aged 17-35 – or over – who run, at least occasionally, in M/W 21 or M/W 17-20 in NOL races, e.g. at Easter or Aus Champs or other NOL events.

There have been some recent changes to OT policy in this area.

Most significant among them is a decision to have the official Foresters Senior (M/W21) top, pictured, also designated as the official Foresters Junior (M/W17-20) top.  Up to now, most juniors have been running in their Schools top for JNOL, though with special dispensation some older JNOL runners have been running in the Seniors’ top and some in yet an older version.  In short, it’s been messy.  We’d like to see that changed.  We’d like to see everyone eligible to run in NOL or JNOL races running in the same distinctive top.

The good news is that there is an OT subsidy to help effect this change.  (And it is important that everyone is in the correct uniform, as it is an OA requirement to be in the official  State top in order for your results to be counted in the national competition.)  These excellent tops cost around about $80 to buy, but OT is happy to subsidise this by paying $40 off the purchase price to anyone competing in (J)NOL races:

  • For the purchase of their first uniform top, and
  • For the purchase off an additional top after participation in every 15 (J)NOL races.

Action on this is required, particularly on the part of those running JNOL races in Victoria in March or NSW at Easter.  In the past you may have run in a Tasmanian  Schools top, but you’ll now need to contact our Uniforms Officer, Liz Butler, on eabutler@bigpond.net.au or ph 6245 1647 to order a subsidised top.  Liz has some sizes in stock but will need to order others and, as they come from New Zealand, there may be a bit of a time lag.  So please act promptly.

We’d also like to encourage those of you who generally run in older (or younger) age classes but who do, from time to time, run M/W21 or M/W17-20 in NOL events such as the Easter Prologue or Aus Sprint Champs, to also acquire a subsidised Tassie Foresters top to be worn on those occasions.  Similarly, we have a number of Tasmanians who generally run M/W21AS on Long races, but step up to Elite classes in national Sprints and sometimes Middle Distance races – and we’d like to see you in Forester colours too!

Please direct all orders and enquiries re sizing etc to Liz Butler.  Any queries on eligibility, or subsidies for tops already purchased should come to Jan Hardy, OT Performance Director, on ph 62342991 or email janhardy@iprimus.com.au.
