You may remember previous news items about a 216 unit residential and golf course development that has been proposed for the Pittwater area. This would occupy virtually all of the complex dunes area that has world class orienteering values. OT has previously made representations against this proposal and maintained contact with other groups that are opposed.
An umbrella group called SOS (Save our Spit) has been formed. This has started lobbying Clarence Council and politicians.
On Monday February 24 at 7.30 pm, Clarence Council will be considering a motion to rezone the area from Crown Land “protected area” to one that would allow the residential and golf course development. It is important that as many orienteers as possible attend this meeting to demonstrate the strength of our opposition.
If the rezoning is passed at the Council meeting, it would then have to be endorsed by the Tasmanian Planning Commission (Formerly Resource Planning and Development Commission) in April. SOS is trying to raise money to cover representation by a professional planner at the hearings.
