OT will be holding a mapping workshop, delivered by renowned mapper Alex Tarr, on maps at St Helens on February 22-23 at the Trades Training Centre, St Helens. Acceptances to come to Roger Harlow via technical@tasorienteering.asn.au giving an email address which can receive a background map to play with.
The Workshop should attract orienteers with a mapping background, or at least with a strong history in competitive orienteering. The Workshop will concentrate on individuals’ fieldwork and interpretation of features as this is usually the greatest need. The ability to accurately place a feature from a mapping or control setting viewpoint will be a mandatory competency for participants, who will be expected to draw up fieldwork on computer and present the results at later sessions.
Familiarity with OCAD or equivalent mapping software will be a requirement. The freeware version of OCAD 6 http://www.ocad.com/en/downloads/freeware would be adequate as a training platform and to do map updates.
Numbers would need to be restricted to around 8 -12. Note also that OT is shortly likely to adopt a policy requiring intending mappers and ‘map updaters’ to have such a training course under their belt.
Please forward this message to others you know may be interested and reply via technical@tasorienteering.asn.au if you are interested yourself.
Kind regards,
Roger
