Orienteering Tasmania has received notification that a controlled burn, originally scheduled to take place on May 15 on Mount Direction, including parts of the Risdon Brook Reserve, is likely to be brought forward to Saturday, May 11, due to prevailing weather conditions.  If this occurs, Risdon Brook Reserve will be closed to the public for several days.

While there is a slight chance that the burn will be delayed, Orienteering Tasmania has made an early decision to cancel the Southern Park O Series event which was to have been held at Risdon Brook Reserve on Sunday May 12.  This will allow us to ensure that all orienteers receive early notification of the cancellation.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, however the decision has been made in the interests of the orienteering community and with a view to maintaining the good relationships that we have with Southern Water, the Parks and Wildlife Service and the Tasmanian Fire Service.
