Orienteering Tasmania has received a grant from the Australian Sports Commission to run a series of winter events in Hobart on Saturday afternoons.  The grant aims to encourage newcomers to try orienteering as a healthy sport open to both sexes and people of all ages and levels of physical ability. The first event will be held on 18 May 2013.  The full program for the series is now available on the OT website.  Australopers Orienteering Club will be running the series on behalf of Orienteering Tasmania.  The grant recognises that we already have a very full calendar and that accordingly it will be necessary to fund organisers for the 10 event series.  As a consequence Orienteering Tasmania seeks expressions of interest for the following positions, all of which are open to appropriately experienced and qualified persons, regardless of club affiliation.

  1. Marketing Officer/s.  This position will include overseeing the marketing strategy, development of promotional material, maintenance of an email contact list of participants, emails to potential competitors, etc.       Reimbursement: $250 for series
  2. Entries Officer.  This position develops an on-line entry system and oversees on-line entries for the series.  Reimbursement:  $200 for series.
  3. Individual event organisers.  A weekly organiser for each event, or for a number of events or for the entire series of 10 events.  Reimbursement:  $100 per event.  Responsibilities will include:
  • Set Courses
  • Arrange map printing
  • Get any permissions
  • Collect gear
  • Put Controls Out
  • Set up on day
  • Pack up after event
  • Set up event file
  • Import course data
  • Set up download station at events
  • Add registrations
  • Download results
  • Cumulate points
  • Put results on website
  1. Map preparation officer.  Responsible for final artwork and printing of all maps each week. Reimbursement:  $250 for series
  2. Systems officer/s.  This position will be responsible for Sportident setup and operation for the whole series, including being present at each event.  Reimbursement: $500 for series.  Responsibilities will include:
  1. Registration officers x 2:  Man the registration desk at each event.  Reimbursement:$25 per event per person.  Weekly, multiple events or whole series.
  2. Control Collectors:  Collect all controls after the event (max 20 per event).  Reimbursement: $20 per event.  Weekly, multiple events or whole series.
