Enjoy a Maprun & Maze O in Launceston this Thursday 5 December
Just turn up to Ken, Donelda and Eleanor’s house at 9 Rajee Place in Norwood between 5 and 7 pm to enjoy a short Maprun course through the local streets and park. Plus, we are resurrecting the maze in the back yard for some fast and furious action. As a bonus, there'll be no event fees!
A BBQ (BYO food and drink) will follow. Plus EVOC will hold the club's AGM.
Bring your mobile phone! Maprun is actually an app. This means you will need to orienteer by phone instead of using a paper map. Don't worry, we'll help you set it up. Further instructions about Maprun will be announced on the EVOC Facebook page (or you can find out on the day).
The maze event was a Russian coach initiative from last summer. This is great fun particularly for young kids.
Jump at the chance for some serious fun this Sunday 8 December
Come along to the Southern Christmas Event at Mountain River. Starts will be from 10:30 to 11:30. There are two courses that include both bush tracks and an intriguing 'wargames' map. Plus as an early Christmas present, you can participate for free (that's right, no entry fees).
There's also a big picnic area. So plan to bring your folding chairs, chicken and champagne, and to have great fun. It's looking hopeful, Santa may make an appearance...
As a bonus, after lunch - there'll be knock out rounds of a Maze-O.
Directions: The event is on Hein Pooternaar's property, Mountain River, at the end of Banksia Road. To get there, head towards Huonville on the Huon Highway. But turn right into Dip Rd 2 km before the Grove shop, and then after 1 km turn right up Banksia Rd to Hein’s place. This is about 15 minutes from Kingston.

How the Tasmanian Government is supporting AOC2020.
As an orienteer, you will be pleased to hear the Australian Orienteering Championships 2020 is now supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania.
"Ongoing government support of major events indicates the community has confidence in the strength of Orienteering Tasmania and our ability to conduct major sporting events," said Warwick Moore, Championships Director. "In practical terms the financial contribution will help ease the pressure on the carnival budget".
This support through Events Tasmania adds to the Championship Grant awarded by Communities Sport and Recreation.
"The Australian Championships will bring around 800 competitors to St Helens for over a week in late September," said Sally Wayte, OT President. "It's likely many of these people and their families will stay on for a holiday in Tasmania. So the Championships are a great boost for regional tourism".
To help you make the most of your time while you're down here, Events Tasmania have a website, jam packed with tourist information: Discover Tasmania.
